Journal of Quantitative Linguistics

The Journal of Quantitative Linguistics (JQL) is an international forum for the publication and discussion of research on the quantitative characteristics of language and text in an exact mathematical form. Specifically, JQL publishes on:

  • Observations and descriptions of all aspects of language and text phenomena including the areas of psycholinguistics, sociolinguistics, dialectology, pragmatics, etc. as far as they use quantitative mathematical methods (probability theory, stochastic processes, differential and difference equations, furry logics and set theory, function theory etc.), on all levels of linguistic analysis.
  • Applications of methods, models, or findings from quantitative linguistics to problems of natural language processing, machine translation, language teaching, documentation and information retrieval.
  • Methodological problems of linguistic measurement, model construction, sampling and test theory.
  • Epistemological issues such as explanation of language and text phenomena, contributions to theory construction, systems theory, philosophy of science.

Glottotheory

International Journal of Theoretical Linguistics

Glottotheory was founded in 2008. The journal is published by De Gruyter. The foci of Glottotheory are:

  • observations and descriptions of all aspects of language and text phenomena including the areas of psycholinguistics, sociolinguistics, dialectology, pragmatics, etc. on all levels of linguistic analysis,
  • applications of methods, models or findings from quantitative linguistics concerning problems of natural language processing, language teaching, documentation and information retrieval,
  • methodological problems of linguistic measurement, model construction, sampling and test theory,
  • epistemological issues such as explanation of language and text phenomena, contributions to theory construction, systems theory, philosophy of science.

The journal considers itself as platform for a dialogue between quantitative and qualitative linguistics.

Glottometrics

Glottometrics is a scientific journal for the quantitative research of language and text published 2 times a year. The aim of Glottometrics is quantification, measurement and mathematical modeling of any kind of language phenomena. We invite contributions on probabilistic or other mathematical models (e.g. graph theoretic or optimization approaches) which enable to establish language laws that can be validated by testing statistical hypotheses.

Mathematical Linguistics

The Mathematical Linguistics (ML) is an open access and peer-reviewed journal publishing scientific research on the computational and mathematical characteristics of language and text. It offers readers a great orientation, discussing the most recent findings of the field and covering a rich array of topics among which the most prominent ones are statistical and corpus-based approaches to the analysis of text and speech.

ML specifically publishes papers on:

  • Discussion of all aspects of language and linguistics including the areas of phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, pragmatics, lexicography, sociolinguistics, psycholinguistics, language learning and teaching as far as they use mathematical methods in their linguistic analyses.
  • Report on applications of methods and models of mathematical linguistics to various problems of natural language processing including machine translation, information retrieval, data mining, speech synthesis, optical character recognition (OCR), automatic text summarization, speech recognition, among others.
  • Different aspects of using corpus linguistics in all applied linguistic levels.

Journal of Language Modelling

Journal of Language Modelling is a free (for readers and authors alike) open-access peer-reviewed journal aiming to bridge the gap between theoretical linguistics and natural language processing. Although typical articles are concerned with linguistic generalisations - either with their application in natural language processing, or with their discovery in language corpora - possible topics range from linguistic analyses which are sufficiently precise to be implementable to mathematical models of aspects of language, and further to computational systems making non-trivial use of linguistic insights.

Quality & Quantity

International Journal of Methodology

Quality and Quantity constitutes a point of reference for European and non-European scholars to discuss instruments of methodology for more rigorous scientific results in the social sciences.

The journal publishes papers on models of classification, methods for constructing typologies, models of simulation, neural networks and fuzzy sets for social research, mathematical models applied to social mobility, mathematical models of voting behavior, qualitative methodology and feminist methodology, discussions on the general logic of empirical research, analysis of the validity and verification of social laws, and similar topics.

Quality and Quantity is an interdisciplinary journal which systematically correlates disciplines such as mathematics and statistics with the social sciences, particularly sociology, economics, and social psychology.
